History of Industry City
Industry City was founded by iconic American entrepreneur Irving T. Bush in the early 20th century, known at the time as Bush Terminal.
It was the first facility of its kind in New York City, which employed more than 25,000 people within its boundaries.
Bush Terminal was one of the original entrepreneurial hubs in the United States. It offered economies of scale for its tenants, saving them on inbound/outbound rail shipments, insurance rates, labor, and rent, so that even the smallest companies could access facilities normally only available to large, well-capitalized firms.
Founders in the 1910โs could have access to private railroad tracks, a "free waterfront," and "a million-dollar factory at your present rental or less", giving them flexibility to rent as little as 5,000 square feet of space.
In todayโs dollars, companies were able to save $100,000 to $400,000 annually by locating in Industry City.
